Artist Bio

Nicholas Franklin is a self-taught abstract artist based in Kansas City, Missouri, whose work explores emotion, resilience, and human connection through fluid acrylics and mixed media. Drawing inspiration from movement, color, and the unpredictability of his materials, he creates dynamic compositions that balance spontaneity with intention.

Franklin's artistic journey began early, but during the pandemic he turned to painting as a creative and therapeutic outlet. What started as a way to process uncertainty evolved into a dedicated practice centered on expressing emotions that are often difficult to put into words. This personal experience continues to shape his work, which invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences and emotional landscapes.

Working primarily with fluid acrylics, Franklin embraces the natural flow of paint while guiding each composition through layering, texture, and mark-making. His paintings capture moments of energy, transformation, and possibility, creating immersive visual experiences that reward close observation.

Through The Perfect Piece Studios, Franklin continues to develop a distinctive body of work that celebrates the power of emotion, self-discovery, and creative expression. His work has been exhibited throughout the Kansas City region and is held in private and corporate collections.

Artist Statement

My work explores emotion through abstract painting, using fluid acrylics to create compositions filled with movement, energy, and expression. I am drawn to the space where spontaneity and intention meet—where the unpredictable flow of paint reveals forms, feelings, and stories that cannot be fully planned.

Each painting begins as an open exploration. I guide the process while allowing the paint to move freely, responding to its natural rhythms through layering, mark-making, and color. This balance between control and surrender creates work that feels both dynamic and deeply personal.

Color serves as an emotional language in my practice. Bold contrasts, luminous hues, and layered textures communicate experiences ranging from joy and hope to reflection and resilience. Rather than depicting a specific subject, I aim to capture the energy of a feeling and invite viewers to connect it to their own experiences.

Through my work, I seek to create spaces for reflection, curiosity, and emotional connection. Each painting is an invitation to pause, engage with the unknown, and discover meaning within the movement, color, and emotion held on the canvas.
